Our thoughts upon the website
When you are building a website, you need to plan it, follow a series of steps to make your site successful. This generally goes for even small personal homepages, larger cooperate websites and of course this also goes for CMS driven websites like ours, powernodes.com.
So we did.
We started the planning on paper. Writing down our goals for the website, always keeping the design process in mind.
We had various requirements for the website.
- Organization. Already at this point we "organised" our content on paper. Not only for our own sake because it makes maintainence easier for the editors, but also with the visitors in mind.
- Usability. Obviously is organization of content also an issue here, but for us it was important to prevent the user from getting lost on website. Therefor we have chosen to show breadcrumb trails, menu systems which handles states in both shape and colours, white backgrounds in reading areas and much more which is not that relevant here.
- Easy maintainable for the developers. Reuse as much standard layout as possible everywhere. Seperate such parts out to ASP.NET usercontrols.
All this does not have direct impact or to do with the CMS, but I promise you; plan your work and development is much faster and effecient.
